BIDS 4/4/18

**Big trade tension wrinkles this am! China says it is going to place new retaliatory tariffs on US import goods over the next several months.  This came just after the US announced that we would implement import tariffs on Chinese import products amounting to $50 billion.  The new 25% import tariffs are designed to level the playing field, penalizing China for its policies that force US companies to surrender proprietary technology to the Chinese government and have been allowed to be left in place by previous administrations.  China’s threatening retaliatory tariffs would include  some 1,300 products worth $50 billion, mainly focusing on industrial high tech products with a 25% levy on cars, chemicals, and aircraft. Other US items that they are threatening to tax are corn, beans, wheat, cotton, tobacco, frozen beef, and whiskey. Overnight beans were down .40 cents, stocks and the S&P were lower.  It is also important to note that these taxes are all being TALKED about.  Nothing physical has been put into place and will take months to enact. US Commerce Sec Ross suggests most likely this will end in negotiations.  China does need US beans as they are a huge producer of world pork.  Stay tuned!**

**With the passage of the omnibus spending bill, the 199A “Grain Glitch” was approved by Senate and signed by Pres Trump.  The playing field has been leveled and producers can retroactively sell grain to private companies without a 20% reward to cooperatives.  THANKS for your support and positive attitudes as our elected officials sorted through the discourse!**
